If you are anything like me, you may rely on social media platforms way too much, to remind you when people are celebrating life events like birthdays and anniversaries. I always thought that this was a fail-proof method to remember celebrations until I realized that it’s not…
The problem comes in when someone important in your life is not connected to social media (like your great grandmother, except for if she is very tech savvy, in which case that won’t be a problem for you) … Or you don’t visit social media site all that often… Or your internet is down for a day or two… I think you get the point.
I am not saying that social media can’t be of help, I am just saying that to have an alternative celebration calendar in place, is not a bad idea either. So, to make it easier for myself, and hopefully you too, I have created a FREE TEMPLATE to help us capture life celebrated events in a way that we can plan and be more intentional with our good wishes and presents for friends and family.
It is usually easiest to start with your immediate family, then work your way out from there. People to consider will be family, friends, colleagues and any other people that are dear and close to you.
/ STEP 2 – WRITE DOWN YOUR RELATION /
Now, you can write down (if you haven’t done so in the first step already) the relation each one of these people has to you. We sometimes seem to hang on to people who are no longer part of our lives but keep them in mind, try to streamline your list as much as possible.
/ STEP 3 – TICK THE CELEBRATIONS YOU WANT TO REMEMBER /
Not everyone is married, not everyone has children, but everyone has a birthday. I have also made space for you to add your own type of celebrations, as I know different people celebrate different events for different people.
/ STEP 4 – ADD THE CELEBRATION DATES /
Once you have identified all the celebrations you want to remember, start at the top and complete the dates on which these celebrations take place. There are multiple ways to this, for example, to use social media or contact the person directly and ask them about the dates.
/ STEP 5 – REWRITE ALL THE DATES AND CELEBRATIONS ON YOUR UNDATED CALENDAR /
Now, that you have all the information on one sheet, it is super easy to rewrite them onto your perpetual calendar, also part of FREE DOWNLOAD. I would suggest using an icon or letter to indicate the celebration you referring to. Example if it is a birthday, you can use a B etc.
/ STEP 6 – PUT YOUR CALENDAR SOMEWHERE YOU CAN SEE IT ON A DAILY BASIS /
Congratulations, you now have a fully functional, fail-proof, celebration calendar which can last you for years to come. Place the calendar somewhere you can see it daily so that you plan your messages, presents, and events well in advance. Never missing someone’s special day again.
/ (OPTIONAL) STEP 7 – ADD ALL YOUR CELEBRATIONS ON AN ONLINE CALENDAR /
If you like technology to just give you that extra reminder, take all the dates (month-by-month) and add them to your preferred online calendar.
There you have it, I hope that this system, will help you to never forget those special events, ever again. I know it will surely help me.
I would love to hear from you. What is the best way that you remember those special events?
